Having white teeth and a beautiful smile requries more attention to your teeth and taking a proper care of them. There are so many people that don’t give the deserved attention to their teeth which results in tooth decay.

There are so many factors that cause your teeth an irreparable damage, such as brushing them at the wrong time, using old tools, brushing them too quickly and the most important thing is that people forget to brush their teeth in the morning. Here is how you should take care of teeth and avoid frequent mistakes and hazards:

Brushing up and down is wrongYou should not brush your teeth up and down because it can erode the gums, instead try brushing them in gentle and circular motions, massaging the gums and teeth. The bacteria hides in the gums, so the toothbrush bristles need to go into the gum, not only to skate over the teeth surface. You should also use a medium strenght brush. If you have noticed that your gums start bleeding while you brush your teeth, it is because you are doing it wrong.

According to dentists, you should spend an equal amount of time on each section of the mouth. You would need around 2 minutes in order to brush your teeth properly.

Use strawberries and sodium bicarbonate

You can prepare a natural teeth whitener by mixing strawberries and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).

All you need to do is to mix 8 strawberries and half a teaspoon of baking soda. Mix them and prepare a paste.

Once prepared, put a cotton piece between your teeth to bite on and then apply the paste over the teeth. Rub the paste a little to whiten the teeth.

Baking soda acts as an abrasive so it will help you remove the stains from coffee, tea and smoking.

Strawberries will also help you remove the stains because it contains ascrobic acid. Another way to keep your teeth white and helathy is by consuming hard cheeses. Cheese neutralizes plaque acid because the fermented dairy product increases alkaline in the mouth and forms protection around teeth.

Brush before breakfast

Make sure to brush your teeth before breakfast because if you do that after consuming acidic or sugary food, it will only rub the sugar into the teeth and wear away the enamel.

If you want to brush teeth after breakfast, wait an hour to give your saliva a chance to neutralize the acid.

Brush your teeth before going to bed because at this time of the day you produce the least amount of saliva. When the levels of saliva are reduced, bacteria can cause cavities.

Chew gum only for 10 minutes

Evethough we love the freshness of gums in our mouth, it should not stay longer than 10 minutes in our mouth because chewing gums for too long can cause problems

Teeth break things down, but gums are soft and teeth begin to bang one another, causing breaking and chipping.

Moreover, while chewing, your stomach expects food and starts producing acid which can irritate the stomach lining, ultimately causing stomach ulcers

Brush tongue

If you want to have a fresh breath, brush your tongue, because it includes most bacteria, which produce sulphur and makes breath smell bad.

Clean your tongue with a toothbrush or a tongue scraper.

Use an electric toothbrush

It is more effective to use electric toothbrush because it does all the work for you.

Don’t forget to floss

You should floss every day or at least every other day.

According to some studies, flossing can prolong people’s lives, while people with gum disease have increased chances to suffer from coronary heart disease.

This is because gum disease causes dangerous bacteria which is released into the bloodstream.

Flossing disturbs the bacteria so they can’t grow and get hard.
